Healthcare Hero

Earlier this year, we put out the call for healthcare hero nominations. We were looking for community members in the healthcare field who were on the front lines battling COVID-19 in uncertain times.  We received some great submissions and choosing winners was no easy task. We chose 4 Healthcare Heroes. Two from Louisiana and two from Houston.  Each hero helped battle COVID-19 a little differently. It was our honor to install new bathrooms for all these heroes!   

Meet Brian 

Brain lives in Houston, TX and is an Epidemiologist. You may have heard about disease detectives and contract-tracing in the news; he is one of those detectives. Brian is also battling stage 4 cancer but is still working 10-hour days trying to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19 in the Houston community. His wife is also an essential worker at the local grocery store. She has not missed a single day of work during these difficult times. Their shower is over 15-years old and is in pretty bad shape. We want to thank Brian for all the hard work he has been doing and award him with a new shower. Congratulations on being selected a MaxHome Healthcare Hero. 

Meet Vanessa 

Vanessa is a nurse in Houston, TX who was nominated 11 different times by co-workers, former patients, and family members. One of her former patients sums up why we chose Vanessa the best. “Vanessa is a nurse who cares about people whether she is in a work setting or personal. I have witnessed Vanessa go through many trying/difficult times and she is always the same caring, encouraging person doing what she can to lift others up. She always put other’s needs before her own. I was recently in the hospital. Vanessa would always visit me and spend time with me even after she had just worked a 12-hour shift. Before going home, Vanessa would stop by and encourage me, go on walks with me, and make sure my care was excellent, and medical needs were met. It was obvious that she was tired and needed to go home, take of her own family, and get rest for her next day of work. She would not hear of it until she checked on me. I can’t think of a more deserving person to receive this award than Vanessa.” Thank you, Vanessa, for the work you do for the community. Congratulations on being selected a MaxHome Healthcare Hero. 

Meet Amy

Amy is a nurse in Baton Rouge, LA. She works in the cancer unit of Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. She was nominated by her husband who is a Maintenace worker at a designated COVID-19 hospital in the Baton Rouge area. “My wife is dedicated to the care and helping to make each patient’s journey through cancer treatment as comfortable and easy as possible. During this uncertain times, she tells of the fear that patients have as they are being dropped off at the door to face starting chemotherapy all alone and of the patients that are so scared of contracting the virus when their immune system is already compromised. She has a huge heart and a joyful spirit and tries hard to keep these patients’ spirits up and calm their fears.” Thank you, Amy, for all that you do and congratulations on being selected a MaxHome Healthcare Hero. 

Meet Deidre 

Deirdre is a nurse in New Orleans, LA. She was one of the first in her unit to volunteer to take on extra shifts in the ER when the pandemic began. She has worked tirelessly throughout COVID-19 to make sure that every shift is staffed. Deirdre is also the primary care giver to her 90-year old father. Because of her choice to help others, she has only been able to talk to her father through the window to limit his exposure to the virus. Deirdre is a true healthcare “hard worker” who has sacrificed to take care of others. We at MaxHome thank you for what you do. Congratulations on being selected a MaxHome Healthcare Hero.
